Tech Comes to the Gates of Entrada

If the “Tech” word makes your stomach flip, fear not:

Your Fob still works. And will continue to work, just as it has since you got it.

I say again, if technology is a four letter word for you, keep on clicking.

But if you enjoy technology or would like to take advantage of multiple “Guest” features in this new system, read on.

EPOA has contracted with our gate control manufacturer to implement the myQ Community SmartPhone App. This is a digital interface to the gates of Entrada that will give homeowners control over the gates for themselves and their visitors. It also gives the EPOA much better accountability for contractors, delivery personnel, employees, and other categories of folks who need access to where we live.

The system is very simple, yet versatile, allowing you to:

Open any gate—entry and exit—from your phone.
Issue guest passes in different categories to friends, relatives, service personnel, and delivery people.

HOW TO GET IT

Simple: Go on the PMP Website.

Hit the big fat REQUESTS button, second from the left in the middle of the screen. Fill out the request form like this:

Trisha will reply by the next business day with a link that will instruct you to install the app and register with the LiftMaster System. If you don’t see the message, check your junk folder. The app is available for Apple and Android systems. (Note: This is NOT the same App that controls LiftMaster garage doors, which many of us have; this app is called myQ Community App. If you do have a LiftMaster garage door, you can combine the two functions into the community app; we will explain how at another time).

HOW TO USE IT

Follow the on-screen directions and the app will be up and running, then go to the ACCESS page. You will see two categories, ENTRADA and THE MAIN ENTRANCE ENTRADA. Next to each category is a down arrow:

Touch the down arrow next to ENTRADA and the folder of gates will open. You now are looking at every gate in our community. Note that the X designator by a gate’s name indicates an EXIT gate.

Find the gate or gates you most frequently use. Long-press that gate’s icon (not the small Lock icon within the icon) for three seconds and the display will expand to this:

Press the “Favorite” slider and that icon will move to a new menu section named FAVORITES.

Now your opening screen has three categories. Close (by touching the down arrow) the Entrada Gates folder and your screen will display your favorite gates.

To open a gate, tap the “lock” in the upper left hand corner of the icon and Shazam, the gate opens!

You can use these buttons as an alternative to your fob – it may be particularly handy if you are walking or biking. Also, if a visitor calls you from their mobile phone (rather than from the phone directory in the kiosk), you can open the gate remotely.

GUEST PASSES

Tap the Guest Pass icon at the bottom of the screen.

This is the Guest Pass Page, where you can issue a short-term gate code to delivery people or repairmen or a long-term gate code to family, house guests, or contractors who will be with you for a while.

To issue a new guest pass, hit the +NEW> button (see, this really isn’t that hard!)

You will see three offerings: DELIVERY PASS, which times out quickly; TEMPORARY PASS, for repeat visitors on a long- or short-term basis; and RECURRING PASS, for folks who visit on a set schedule.

Select the most appropriate Pass. As an example, let’s do a TEMPORARY PASS for Aunt Beatrice, who, like fish, should be tossed out after three days:

First, name the pass, in this case, Aunt Bea. The next screen will ask for access dates. Aunt Bea gets three days. The next screen asks which gates Aunt Bea can open. The next page is a review page of the parameters you have selected. If everything looks good, hit CREATE TEMPORARY PASS.

You now have the option of sending Aunt Bea the TEMPORARY PASS through an email or text or telling her the five digit code over the phone.

The advantage of using the text or the email is this: Aunt Bea will receive a link, which, when activated, opens the gate. She does not have to contort through her car window to enter a code in the keypad. Everything is done from her phone.

Simple enough.

It takes about 15 minutes for a pass to activate, so don’t wait until the last minute if you have a friend or delivery on the way.

Please limit the passes you create to the necessary time-frames and entrances. Our access system tracks pass usage. You are responsible for those who enter Entrada on your authority.

Up to 15 passes can be active at one time.

The app will alert you whenever one of your passes is used.

This gets a bit more complex. But it does offer a hands-free experience:

Have fun with it. Enjoy it. And remember:

The fob still works!!!

Here is a generic video from LiftMaster explaining this system:
